Over a year since they came out

Post by bboc » Fri Aug 29, 2008 8:12 pm

Here in Maryland I just found a Russian soldier set at a TRU today. I had seen them at a show over a year ago. Then I went to a WalMart that is right next to the TRU and found a "Heavy Artillery Emplacement II" set which I had been looking for for months.

I went to a WM off the beaten path that usually has very little 21C. I had to dig through the clearance aisle to find a singular 155MM playset for $15. This is only the second one I have seen and paid $19.99 for the last one. I will check out the other, more XD favorable WMs later this weekend.

Stopped at the TRU in Mishawaka, IN yesterday and saw the Series 1 box set of Japanese Imperial Marines (6 figures). I've also been seeing quite a few of the various Russian, Chinese, and Italian 3-figure packs at local WMs in Benton Harbor and South Haven. Nothing much in the way of new aircraft or armor, however, at least that I can tell.

Also, if anyone is looking for FOV 1/72 figure sets, my local Meijer (Benton Harbor) has them on clearance for $2.99--I picked up a couple of each for diorama building, but there are plenty more, and other Meijer stores may have them on clearance too. They have the Russian and SS cavalry groups, as well as the US set with the guy on the stretcher.

Actually found some of the new 21c "4 Star" vehicles at a local Target store 8) Funny thing is that they were not there a week ago and they were already in the discount aisle. The selection consisted of two of the 32x Panzer 38Ts and although the sticker said they had been reduced to $12.88 from $17.99, they rang up for a nice $4.98!

I'm really puzzled by the whole thing as these products were never out on the shelf at this store, save for this one instance, and there was nothing in the stockroom. No other P-51s, FW-190s, figures, or playsets. Then again, considering 21c's usual antics, should I be surprised

Well, I don't know if I'd accuse 21st of any antics in that situation seeing as how they don't have a say in when Target puts out or discounts stuff, but they sure should keep tabs on how the product is being treated at the store and perhaps say something if Target's actions can cause further harm to 21st's sales.

Considering that the 21st stuff that showed here sold out quickly and wasn't restocked tells me that 21st couldn't keep its shipping schedule with Target, and Target certainly doesn't want empty shelves waiting on product. If this is true, then this is another blow to 21st that could mean we are close to the end. :(

IRT hworth

I was under the impression that was a test at Target, so normally nothing more would be shipped until Target had ascertained the success of the test.

IRT mikeg

Never been to the Hiram Target.

I haven't been to any WM's beyond Villa Rica, Douglasville, or Carrollton in months - low on cash right now - and the Target in Carrollton resembles a cleaner K-Mart.

Again, it was just odd... They were probably put out on Sunday or Monday, but it most certainly was not a full selection as there would have been more on the shelves. This stuff always took forever to sell at my local Wal Marts, TRU, and Hobbytown, so its unlikely that it would have sold in the course of a few days only to have the remaining pieces discounted to $5. Again, there hadn't been anything there last week on the shelves at least. Still, I got another Panzer 38 to keep in the unique box

In a slim ray of hope I found S1 Spitfires at two WMs today. That was much faster than usual...

Target

Target in Melbourne Florida had some of the new repackaged TUS stuff. I saw the Chinese infantry set, some U.S. howitzer crew sets, a P-51, and Focke Wolfs. They also have FOV stuff in blister packs that used to be boxed.

I found one Spitfire model, and one FW-190 at Walmart today. I picked up the Spitfire for a friend of mine.

Not really from my AO, but two TRUs I stopped in at Bakersfield and Lyons, Ca. had 32x Bf-109Gs in the "Shilling" paint scheme, so keep on the lookout for those

The a Wal Mart in Lyons had one of the better 21c selections I've seen at a Wal Mart lately. 32x Spitfires, FW-190As, Bf-109Fs, P-51s, 32x Marders and Hetzers, 32x DAK figures, 1:48 Tonys and German Marders, 1:144 packs with Spitfire repaints, 1:144 tanks and best of all, the new Artillery packs with the Longtom and proper crew figures. Picked up a 1:144 aircraft pack and the Artillery set 8)

I'm beginning to think it is not so much the TRU and Wal Mart distribution system that sucks, but the stores in my area in central California... I usually always seem to find the best stuff way outside of town

Swept a TRU today: major shuffling of the military collectibles section. Found 2 Red 19 FW-190's, Schilling BF-109, sharkmouth Mustang, and 2 Jagdtiger for 21c. 2 Stugs and 1 Stuart for $10.99, 3 broken HIMARS. Interesting: 1 Old Crow 1:18 Mustang and a Starfighter for $44, never sold there before. New FoV 1:72: Mustang, Lee, and an S1 T-34.

Is the Schilling 109 a new scheme? I can't remember. We just now got the sharkmouth Mustangs and Red 19 190. We've had the Spits for a couple months now but are few and far between. I will say the later batch of Spits I've seen are far superior than what I initially encountered.

Most certainly not. The "Schilling" Bf-109G has been out since December of 2006. That was back in the day when the western states tended to get most of the new 32x aircraft releases first (and rightfully so!) It is very possible that the 109s did not get as good coverage as they should have

A Target in Fresno, Ca got some new FOV Battle Extreme packs in! (This was the one on Blackstone & Bullard, for those few locals on the board.) One pack was the new D-Day commemorative set with the tan King Tiger and soldiers. The other was 1:72 Blackhawk repaint. This helo was in an odd paint scheme that was desert tan with green overspray on the upper surfaces and doors. The store had one of the KT sets and two of the Blackhawks. They were in the new-style packaging.

Well, I guess I see where the double and triple posts are coming from- after the initial post, the "no topic available" message appears- so we probably hit submit another time or two.

All my local WMs have restocked their 1/18 figures, 1/32 AC and AFVs, 1/48 AC and AFVs and 1/144 AC and AFVs. Go figure, same Tonys, Marders and Hetzers they were clearancing off a month ago. On the plus side Spitfires and FWs are all over the place.

One new item is I saw a singular 8 inch Howitzer packaged in the $15 box pack with no crew or accessories. This may be a WH clear out as I also found some of the boxed playsets with the Stuf IV and ME-109E. Good to see WM hasn't pulled the plug on this stuff though.

I noticed a new (old) group of gabler silver 109s; winter yellow 8 109s, also.
