A Hetzer from the Baltic Sea

Post by Wieslaw » Tue May 29, 2007 3:33 pm

Where? In Jurata on the Hel Peninsula, Poland http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hel_Peninsula

What? The Jagtpanzer 38(t) http://www.odkrywca-online.pl/galerie.p ... c937513247

Still there is the projectile in the barrel...

Stuka, you're right, it was so really. On that Polish forum you can read relations of people, who in 70's and 80's swam there and played in the Hetzer. The vehicle had no roof, that's why they didn't know what type of SP gun was that (Marder?, Wespe?, Su-76?).

Next, the "projectile" in the barrel turned out to be a ramrod.

Unfortunately, I didn't find anything about the vehicle's history or it's unit. The only is the suggestion this Hether could be used as a pier during the evacuation of German civilians in 1945.

Here you can watch two more photo galleries:

Sorry, no concrete news. Next days the Hetzer will be transported to Gdansk to the restoration. And then? Probably some museum, for sure in Poland...

Matthew,

I understand you want to emigrate to Poland (= this state...) and have a possibility to be an owner of this Hetzer! Great news! Welcome to Poland!

This is a heckuvalot more interestin' than hearing about another T-34 being found in a bog and/or freshwater lake/river/what-not. Considering how few of these were actually made, I would think it'd be a very rare find! At least, original builds - I know there are plenty of post-war builds around thanks to the Swiss :)

Jurata on the Hel Peninsula where the Hetzer was found, is the same place where the Presidents of US and Poland meet today.

Do you think that they will let George W. take it home? Georg W. Bush that is. :D They still need to give us a little aid here in the NOLA area so this would be the next best thing. For me any way

Matthew,

yes, I heard that the Poland's president Kaczynski wanted to give the Hetzer to US president as an aid for New Orleans. However, George W. Bush didn't accept it and said there is a lot of vehicles taken from the water, there. So, I only saw on TV your president receiving a sabre from our president. No, not the F-86 Sabre.
