NEED A LITTLE HELP HERE..

Post by JeffSmith » Mon Sep 15, 2008 10:31 am

I just started collecting the 21st century 1:32 scale toys. When I say just started I mean 2 days ago I was at walmart in myrtle beach, saw some neat planes and bought 4 of them. p-51,spitfire, etc. I am interesting in collecting some of them but I just can't find any type of information on ones that are already out. I found some info on 21st century toys.com, spoke to someone at the company, and the guy sent me to this forum to try and collect the information. Can someone tell me how to obtain some kind of checklist on the planes already produced by 21st century? The only info provided by the company to me was that 5000 of each type plane has been produced, example their are many different ppaint schemes for the p51 and they made 5000 per paint scheme. Well how can I find how many paint schemes exist? and how many different type planes exist? Please excuse my ignorance but like I said I have been collecting for a whole 2 days now and have no idea which direction to go. Thanks for the help

Thanks light,
I saw that link after I posted but how many years has 21st century been making these things? example if a plane was made 5 years ago how would i know? and i would assume that obtaining older planes might be hard or expensive. According to a guy I spoke to at 21st century they have been making them for approximately 10 years. I own a hobby shop, mostly deal with sports memorabilia but I have thought about expanding into other areas and since I like these I may just start ordering cases from 21st century.

They have been making the 32x wings series for at least several years. Im sure someone here has more exact info. They usually make a plane or paint scheme for a set period of time and then retire it. those you can find on ebay, but sometimes are kind of pricey.

I asked that very question last month.
Here's a copy of Tman's reply.

Here's the timeline to the best that I can remember. The planes are listed under the year that they appeared in retail stores or online, which does not necessairly correspond with the date stamp on the model itself. Some years, like 2004, we actually got repaints instead of new toolings and I have not listed the various repaints.

2003
P-51D [original tooling]
ME-109E
ME-262

2005
P-40B
FW-190D
P-47D "Bubbletop"

2006
A6M2 Zero
A6M3 Zero
Macchi 202
Macchi 205
F-4U Corsair
JU-87B Stuka
Bf-109F
Bf-109G

2007
P-51B/C
FW-190F

2008
FW-190A
P-51D [retooled]
Spitfire

You might want to try this great on-line reference library that one of our members has set up. 1/32 is incomplete but the 1/18 is definitive.

I just thought of that post as well and was going to pull it up when I saw RAD211 had already done so

The various paint schemes of each aircraft have not been mentioned on the list, but save for the Spitfire, there have easily been 4-6 repaints of each aircraft type. The small retailers quite often have selections of many of the planes released within the last couple of years, so you might want to look at their websites to get an idea of what is currently out there.

Just paying it forward Tman. :D

Jeff, there are many ways to build your collection.
Most of mine were purchased at Wal-Mart and Toys R Us

I have also purchased from online stores:
Badcataviation.com
Smalljoes.com
FoxholeToys.com
eBay

...and the Buy/Sell/Trade Forum (after 6mo.)

Granted, I don't a have every airplane & paint scheme issued, but I do have a good representation.

The only planes I don't have (at all) are the P-40B & C.205 Veltro
