What style of pouches were most commonly used by U.S. infantry, during WWII?
I've seen two kinds so far: a smaller bag, sorta like Thompson ammo bags; and, the three pouch bags.

I think they used the same 3 -30 round clip bag as the Thomson.

Thompson pouches, M1 ammo bags or rigger made pouches could all be used. The issue ammo bag is generally referred to as the M1 GP Ammo Bag and could be used to carry all sorts of things including magazines. There were also several variants of the Thompson Pouches. There were 3 cell and 5 cell pouches and pouches made for 20 or 30 round magazines. Rigger made pouches were generally field made pouches of differing quality.
