ALL USERS, ESPECIALLY NEW USERS: TRADE ALERT & RULES

Post by aferguson » Wed Aug 02, 2006 9:40 am

There are a number of scammers around that keep preying on honest board members.

It is strongly recommended that if you are going to conduct a buy/sell/trade you do it on this forum, openly and NOT via pm or email.

Beware of people who pm you or email you with trade offers. This is how scammers work.....behind the scenes where those who know about them can't see what they are doing and warn others.

Carefully review the feedback thread before making a b/s/t. It may take some time but it may save you a lot of grief and money.

If you are unsure about someone, publicly ask if they are ligitimate or not by posting a message about them on this forum.

Use extreme caution when doing b/s/t's....and don't just blindly trust people......that is what crooks rely on.

ONE FURTHER NEW RULE: YOU MUST BE AN ACTIVE MEMBER ON THIS FORUM FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOU CAN PARTICIPATE IN ANY B/S/T'S. ALL BST ATTEMPTS BY MEMBER ID'S OF LESS THAN SIX MONTHS WILL BE DELETED AND IF ATTEMPTS PERSIST THE ID WILL BE CANCELLED AND ALL ASSOCIATED IP'S BLOCKED. NO EXCEPTIONS. PERIOD. Even after this time it doesn't gaurantee that someone is not dishonest, so continue to follow the trade guidelines and be careful.

THE SIX MONTH RULE WILL BE RIGIDLY ADHERED TO. IF YOU FIND YOUR B/S/T POST IS GONE, THAT'S PROBABLY BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT BEEN AN ACTIVE BOARD MEMBER FOR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS.

Sounds like good advice, to keep the trading and selling transparent.

That works for me. I like the open trade part. I think this might remedy some of our trade problems.

b/s/t rule

Post by bigsarge » Mon Aug 07, 2006 3:43 am

I am a new member and I joined specifically to do b/s/t with other members.I am more intrested in trades than anything. Can there be an exception on this if it is done in a completely public forum?I have lots of items to trade or sell from tanks to planes.Six months seems to be a long time to wait and ebay has become a rather less than desireable place to do bussiness with all their charges not to mention they don't allow trades.I have 100% feedback with over 185 transactions on ebay to verify I am an honest person to deal with. Thanks for your consideration.

sorry, no exceptions. In fact, this has been discussed already with P-51, and if the problems and headaches continue, the b/s/t forum will be shut down permanently.

I hope B/S/Ts will not be shut down-they are a wonderful alternative to eBay, especially for loose items.

There are alternatives. Shutting down B/S/T is a last resort.

In the past I have checked out potential traders by requesting scans and photos of the trader's driver's license. You could take it a step further and request that the item(s) in question appear in the same photo.

Also, requiring a non-generic email address (no yahoo, hotmail, etc) is a good idea, as well as a phone number. Talk to the person on the phone. Check out the number online and be sure it matches the address on the driver's license. Make them send first. demand UPS so you'll have a tracking number.

None of these ensures trading safety, but there are degrees of risk, as we have learned from our buddy in Indiana/Ohio.
My good trader/reference list:
Razor17019, raiderad6, nomo4me, SGT Fury, don, JOC, DIGGER, immeww2.

Hello Everyone,

In my honest opinion, I do not believe the buy, sell, trade forum should be shut down either. It would be a terrible insult to the honest members on here who have conducted business with others with no problems on this forum.

With this latest situation, I personally feel that had more proactive action been taken right off the bat, none of this would have went this far. It was made very clear early on about this particular person and their business practices, yet no one paid any attention to it. I know that I expressed my concern about the individual and some information that others knew about to. Yet nothing seemed to be done about it and to me, nothing has been done about it. They are still around here posting garbage or interferring with other people's business on the forum. I personally don't think this would have been ever tolerated on the old forum.

It also alarms me that we have smart and educated board members who would simply trade with someone by simply getting an email??? Seriously guys come on!!! That is just stupid. To me that is like getting an email to buy a car without ever looking at it and committing to the transaction. I think we have a lot more common sense like that. As bad as bad traders are, I believe we have some bad buyers here too. I believe some people just look for deals too good to be true, which I always tell my students. If it is too good to be true, it probably is. I personally will never buy or sell or trade anything with anyone thru email, ever. Unless it is one of my super buddies from the forum here I know and trust.

If everyone around here were as wise as some with their posts, judgement and common sense, we wouldn't have any problems on here. My .02 cents

Corey

As always, Buyer BEWARE!
Although I'm not sure how this applies to trades, I've not done any.

I guess dont risk more than you can afford to lose and no second chances!

Start with a low value trade and work your way up incrementally.

As Coreyeagle said, plenty of wise posts, just remember the annonimity that the web and email provide.

my 2 cents!

hey I know I haven't been a member for 6 months but can I post on Buy sell And Trade forum if I'm not trying to buy/sell/trade? Like just asking a question or commenting but not trying to do business.
Thanks!

6 month waiting period

Post by General Blasto » Thu Sep 20, 2007 2:18 pm

Well I guess the outta scale stuff I got on Evil bay will have to sit until I qualify for selling/trading :( But it's a good rule to keep folks honest and not to join just to turn a buck or rip folks off. General Blasto

I can understand the wait, the onesixthforum a few years back was plagued with deadbeats. It just sucks that it effects me haha. What I want to trade/buy won't be on the shelves in six months. Oh well.

criminals will be criminals

Post by JeffSmith » Tue Sep 23, 2008 1:49 am

I am new here and plan to b/s/t at some point. Just 4 the record I am not a scammer, if I were to go into the criminal field I would be scamming for alot more than a 15.00 toy, lol. It is amazing how damn low the criminals are now days. Stop stealing 15.00 toys and graduate to the big time, boost a car, rob a bank!! I would be ashamed to tell my buddies i ran a damn scam for 15.00 or even 200.00.

No exceptions?

Post by Divedevil » Tue Dec 30, 2008 6:41 pm

I joined this site specificly to locate a couple of cheap, damaged 1:18 Mustangs. I found one and paid the seller by Paypal. How does that make me a scammer?

The seller is refunding my money because it is a 1:32 scale, but he pointed out this idiotic rule in the process.

I'm not trading....unless you consider legal tender in exchange for a toy a trade.

So...how about a little common sense. If the money isn't sent, you don't get the item. Just like in the real world.

We are all grown ups here......I cand see the restriction on trades, but if someone is willing to buy something and cash changes hands then what is the problem?

Why wait 6 months to buy?

Post by tparkhere » Sun Jan 25, 2009 5:21 pm

Hello.

I am a new member. Although I have been reading this board for more than a year, I have finally decided to join to buy items.

I personally do not sell nor trade any items. I only buy items. I know the rule regarding no b/s/t for 6 months. However, if I were to send money FIRST (by PayPal, credit card, etc) to a seller, is there any risk to a seller? If there is no risk to a seller, why wait 6 months to buy?

I am not here to cause any problem. I am just curious about the logic behind waiting 6 months to buy. Meanwhile, I will wait 6 months.

Thank you.

Tom :)

buy sell trade

Post by snake » Wed Apr 01, 2009 12:38 am

As a new member here I can appreciate the need to weed out any and all scammers.I would want to have complete faith in the system.
However,as an Ebayer with over 90 positive feedbacks, and no negatives,I have a proven track record.
I would not be selling, but purchasing. As I would pay for the product before shipping, how could I scam. The seller would have the cash in hand before shipping.
The 6 month rule makes sense if you are selling. You would not want to give money to a "stranger",unless you had faith that the item would be shipped.
But I do not understand the risk to the seller,if the item is not shipped until payment clears.
Just my 2 cents worth,as an honest person.

I'm new in this forum and had no idea about the 6 months rule.

I've made an inquiry to a member trough a pm in order to know if his item was still available, sorry!

I just hope won't get banned or else because of this.

Sorry gentlemen!..seems I'll have to wait.
