The Best 1/18th Aircraft So Far.

Post by MightyMustang » Thu May 24, 2007 11:49 am

Last night guys I was cleaning my room and I cleaned each of my planes individually and I lined them up to take a look at them. It made me think. Which is still in my view the best 1/18th aircraft to come out so far? My vote went to not my Mustangs but to Marines Dream, my BBI Corsair. Marines Dream is perfect. No paint flaws, no broken parts no nothing. It is absolutley perfect. I have yet to see a 1/18 plane look so perfect in every way. A close second would be Old Crow and my DWK Spitfire. Other then that the rest of my planes have some faults here and there.

Anyone else have a perfect plane with no flaws ect? And which is the best plane so far in your view that has come out?

Lets hear it boys.

Hmm... tough decision! I would have to agree with you and say the "Marines Dream" Corsair as well  My top five would include the AT ME-262, the 21c S1 (silver) F-104, the Spitfire, Mig-15, and F-86 8)

I really want to add the 21c Avenger to that list, but the less-than-perfect wings cause it to be knocked off :(

I really like the 21C S1 silver F-104 a lot. However, I think that AT Me-262 is probably my favorite in terms of detail, paint, etc. The BBI Green Zero would be 2nd on the list. I have a feeling that the AT SBD Dauntless will be my favorite yet to come.

Granted, I'm not a completist, so I don't have every plane. But, the most perfect in my collection is the Vietnam F104. Perfect paint. No broken parts. And, it just looks cool hanging from the ceiling.

But, my favorite plane is the MiG-15. Small like a WWII fighter, but a jet that is somewhat passable alongside my modern stuff. Plus, I have one I've turned over to my GI Joes (IMO, this plane is the one that works the best with all the smaller GI Joe stuff).

This is a hard one. I think as far as paint, it is a tie with my Admiral ME262, and Russian 21st Century MIG-15. Both of those have really nice paint work. But if I had to chose one model overall that seems to just have it, it would be my BBI "Marines Dream" Corsair. There is just something about that model.

AT-f-86 for the paint
AT me-262
21st f-86 huff
21st mig 15
21st avenger

This is not in order.

But my fav if the f-86 huff, but the reason why is this, my great grand father and I put the f-86 model huff together before he died, and evry time I see it I think of him.

my 2nd fav is AT ME-262 and if it were not for my great grand father role in the f-86 it would be number 2.

I dont know the yare so close and both look great.... :?

oh crap I am getting a brain ach..... :? I like the 21st avenger also

oh what th heck thy are all top models in my book.

Hey guys, first post here.

I'm fairly new to 1:18 collecting and currently only have four aircraft in my 1:18 collection (21c Graf 109G-6, 21c Chinese Mig, bbi Marine Corsair and bbi Killer P-51D). Several others in various scales from DML, FOV, (5-star PX/BX relabeled line) and 21c.

Out of all of these I'm most impressed by my Marine Corsair and was happy to see others fond of it and the 21c Migs also.

I've succumbed to the 1:18 madness  :D and glad I found this forum.

VMF,
Thanks for the welcome!

I guess one of the biggest things that does it for me with the bbi Marine Dream is the pilot. Probably the best looking figure I've seen yet, hands down. My only gripe is the droopy flaps (especially the middle section that seems to fall off all the time). But it's the prettiest bird of the bunch.

My Mig also seems flawless, out of the box it had no issues whatsoever.

Gawd I can't wait for the Skyraider or F-4(s).

Bbi seems it make the best pilots for some resaon my 21st f-86 pilots are crap due to the soft plastic they used. both of heads of mine broke of. I hope 21st will fix this. cant wait to see what AT will do with thier pilots.

Yes I was kind of dissapointed with the 21st Century F-86 pilot. The face detail and helmet are nice, but he has really long arms that just don't look right. I wish BBI could make all the pilots for Admiral and 21st Century models also. :D

I had to fix the 21st pilot with small steel rods for the head and the arms since they broke off, well at least he can now move his head and arms with out them falling off....

Hey guys. Some interesting choices and picks. I say again my Marines Dream will stand alone until the BBI Hellcat arrives along with the SBD.

I really like my Normandy-era Peg O' My Heart P-47.

Just a solid workhorse and, as far as I'm concerned, a real classic aircraft.

The P-38 has always been mt favorite. So it is the Haleaka for me. Although it may not be the most pritine it is one cool looking plane. My next choice would be the new B-25 or the Dauntless. Time will tell when I get them in my hot sweaty hands. Yeah that's right

I don't like the airshow birds so there goes the Marine's Dream. The pilots on the bbi birds are nice though.

For detail I say the F-104. For Overall aesthetics plus history the Spitfire - it keeps growing on me even after all this time. I won't speak to what's to come since we don't know how they will stack up but I will say that A-1 is on top of my "can't wait" list. :D

Yes the Skyraider should be really nice. Let's just hope it is still a project Admiral will make. :(

My choice will either be the BBI F-16 and the 21st MiG-15

The only thing I don't like about Marines's Dream is the way the fuselage stars and bars markings seems off. Like it wasn't put in the right place.

mmmm. While I do love the US pacific planes, I'm gonna say my bbi Pearl Harbour Zero is my fav at the moment. Especially the way they've modelled the under carriage. The best one in my opinion (from my collection). 21st's under-carriage treatments tend to be more toy like and simplified.

My pick for the best 1:18 that I've seen:

1. 21st's F-86 The Huff. Flawless and beautiful all around
2. Admiral Me 262. close second to the Huff
3. P-38 Pudgy. Great looking color combination
4. Upcoming P-38 California Cutie. Another wow color scheme
5. BBI Marines Dream Corsair.
6. BBI Checkerboard cowl Corsair
7. DDay striped Spitfire. Way cool
8. Bf 109 G's - Sahl and Amon
9. BBI F-18 and F-16. Although they don't have movable flight surfaces, they did good jobs on paint and just for the fact that those jets have more complicated dimensions and lines than WWII planes.
10. Anyone who makes a kick-ass F-14 in high-vis CAG birds of any following squadrons: VF-84 or VF-103 Jolly Rogers, VF-213 Black Lions, VF-2 Bounty Hunters, VF-111 Sundowners, VF-154 Black Knights all with working sweep wings, rudders, stabilators, slats, flaps, spoilers, speed brakes, removable seats, etc will have my vote in any and every poll as the number 1 best 1:18 airplane of all time!!

Of aircraft that i own...

marines dream corsair.

not because its one of my faves, not because its "perfect" in the mouldings/paint (actually mine has several imperfections)

but just because it draws everyones attention when they come into the room.

the corsair just seems to be an "engineering marvel/ daydream" collecting interest with anyone in sight.

They say of the Corsair in general "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Well nothing could be better said then that. The Mustang and Spitfire rank right up there with that saying but there is just something about the F4U that draws peoples attention. The 1/18th BBI Corsair whether its Marines Dream, Daisey June or the Checker Board version is the best Corsair out there and BBI should be very proud of it. So far their P-51D series comes in second. If the BBI P-51 had the wing dehedral, which I would have wished it had, it would have been hard to beat but because of that I give 21st the slight edge as far as the 1/18th Mustang goes. But its nice to see that alot of you guys agree that Marines Dream is the best 1/18th plane so far. Now lets see if the BBI Hellcat and Admiral SBD can give it run for its money.
