Panzer like armor is back !!

Post by pickelhaube » Fri Oct 08, 2010 8:24 pm

Those panzer like r/c tanks are back !!!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... ink:top:en

In the past a few guys have got some. Would they be good for custom platforms ?

I went ahead and baught one.

The lack of panzers has held me back from doing some mark IV projects.

Brumbar
Nashorn
Ostwind
Heck even more Wirblewinds .

When I get it I will give my own critique of it.

They seem to be here in bulk so maybe that is a good thing.

They do look a bit funky but with a little work they could shine.

And the price is right too !!!!

Pickel Dude, you da man!!!!!!!!! I've been looking for these for over a year. These are great for customs.....just cut and paste.... uh putty.
I was going to make a Strumgeschutz IV but I'd run out of Panzer IV's, these will do fine.

I'll do a search, one of our members did a comparison between 21st's Panzer and this one.
By itself this tank is not that bad......but those fenders HAVE to go and you might want to change that paint scheme.
Thanks for the heads up Pickel.

The last time I saw this Tanks of Was series was Sept '09

ebay was flooded with these a year ago or so and then they just vanished. I noticed a few showed back up on ebay around the first of the week. Odd how some of this stuff is, tons of it and then none.

With these being the only 1:18th Panzer (want to be) IV's around I'm thinking of ordering 2 or 3 for customs.
I have to do the Strumgeschutz IV.......I just like that tank.
Here's one I did with a 21st Panzer....

I like the idea of using this vehicle for a custom base...

Pickelhaube, if you don't mind me postulating about your custom abilities, it would seem that a Stug IV (or Brumbar, etc.) is well within your capabilities... You could possibly design your next big build as the upper shell of a Stug IV, which could then be grafted to the lower hull of this "Panzer-like" RC tank. That is assuming it is of similar construction to the 21c tank. It would cut the cost of doing a full build and we could have an RC Stug IV 8)

Has anyone tried cutting away the skirt, on the fender? I'm curious how easy this will be.

What a surprise! The funky panzer mold almost same as 21st panzer IV from the pics, it is good way to modify to Stug IV. See where I can find it here!

e World Toys sells these R/C tanks...... $29.98 + shipping $13.00 per tank (that's to the East Coast). http://www.eworldtoy.com/1recoelmitaw1.html
Mrs. Normandy was having trouble with ebay  so she went to the source.
My only problem is I have to wait till Christmas. I guess that will give time to finish some of my other projects.

Been looking at the pics........seems like they may have left the muzzle break off the main gun. Oh Pickelhaube could ya make a few.....................................

I tried getting one a long time ago after I saw one up close that a friend had. They are real nice and a good base for many tanks. I may have to order a couple. A nashorn would rock Pickle and I would be interested in that.

I got my panzer in today !!

I will take a look at it to see how it compares to the 21st.

I hope it does.

$38 shipped is a good deal !!!!

Well I took a look at it.

Over all it is almost an exact copy.

There are little details that do not match up.

Mostly small rivet details . The pioneer tools are there but it different locations.
The spare wheels have the steel pins in them like the running gear. 21st's had them to scale without the steel pins.

Of course the fenders look like they belong on a Sherman. They can be cut off easy enough witha Dremel and some sanding.

The copula Mg. looks like a cheapy M-2 . I MEEN CHEAPY

The worst thing is the tracks. First of all they are rubber not plastic like the 21. They treads are like the 21st but do not have the chevrons on the tracktion bars. VERY simplified.

The inside of the tracks have ALMOST NO DETAIL AT ALL.

You can see were they cut corners to reduce the cost. The tools are not painted and the wheels do not have thier tires painted like the 21st.

Over all as far as matching the 21st I give it an "A" with the tiny difference in details unless you scutinize them like I did. You will never know the difference.
Except the paint job of course.

The tracks are another thing. I give them a " D " as far as scale like in apperence.

If it had better tracks I would give it an " A " over all.

But if you can paint them and dirty them up a little to try to pull what little detail it has , it will make a FANTASTIC custom base.

Of couse it is R/C so the rubber tracks my be a pefect match for that purpase.

But for scale YIKES !!!!

I say get them while the gettin' is good !!!!

Picklehaube, now that you have one in hand, and before I spring for one of them, what do you think you might be leaning towards as a project for these.

Either a Brumbar, Nashorn , Ostwind or Stug.

I will make each one eventually .

I will start another poll when I get rolling on the T-34 for the next " short " build.

I will include modern as well as WW2 when I do the poll then have a run off .

I will post this toward the end of next week.

I just got my "cheapo" PIV and also feel it's a good base for something. Not bad looking, tools do need painting. Packing was crappy but the screw downs holding the tank steady in shipment, were both sheared off but luckily there was not much room for the tank to be thrown around. Odd thing was the commander's machine gun. It looks to me like somebodies idea of a U.S. .50 cal machine gun? Doesn't really matter as the top gun will go with the conversions from Pickel, just odd.

8) Three of these Panzer IV's arrived this week. All seem to be in good shape after shipping and they all have muzzle breaks on the end of the barrels, some of the prmo pics were cropped and didn't show them.
Still have to wait till Christmas to start cutting them up but thats ok, my wife went through a lot of crap with ebay  before she said screw them and went to the online store.
Anyhow I'm sure Pickel's T-34 will be ready long before Christmas.........suddenly the 1:18th world is looking a little brighter. :)

I've been traveling a bit lately and just checked back in and saw this post, thanks to Normandy for posting the pics. I'm still away from home until Saturday but I can post pics then of how it looks with the skirts removed. They're pretty easy to get off with a dremel and some sanding. Everything else on it should work fine for any mods. Mine's still in progress for the wirbel kit. :D

Centone, good to hear from you! A big thanks to You for taking those comparison pics, without them I would have been a bit hesitant on purchasing these Panzers.

So who all got one?, I thought for the money it seemed okay. I'll wait for Pic to make a custom and use this as the base.

Anyone know if the Hun is still selling his Strumgeschutz IV kits? I'm having problems with PM's.
