Fantastic work :D

Is that the ME-163 kit I sent you a while back? If so, you really did it justice and I love the way it came out. Kettenkrad also looks great! I have to love the "Harrison Ford" face on some of the ground crew guys

Jnewboy Customs ~ 1/18 8.8cm Flak 37 auf Pz.Kpfw.lV Ausf.H

Post by Jnewboy » Tue Jun 11, 2013 5:10 pm

After all the interest and talk of my 88mm winter flak panzer I decided to do the one from the Dragon box that was used to defend Berlin as a desperate last resort. I was hesitant on doing it at first as I thought it would look to strange but it actually came out great and really shows off the detail of the 88mm.

Nice work, as always! You need some little kids (aka Hitler Youth) manning that gun - or French SS soldiers  Its a confirmed fact that, oddly enough, a contingent of French SS were among some of the last defenders in Berlin trying to hold out in the Zoogarten area, I think.

My grandfather was a Sherman tank commander in the 749th Tank Battallion during the war. He always said that when they first got into France they had more French shooting at them at night than they did Germans. LOL

Thanks for all the kind words guys! When looking at this thing you have to realize just how crazy the last fanatical defenders were! forget no armor, the whole crew was totally exposed! any soviet tank could wipe them out with just their machine gun! not to mention they would have to pivot the gun by hand, no power assist like in the Tiger I. The Nashorn had success using this method but they would be sure to stay at a very far distance and knock out T-34's half a mile away or more on the vast open flat lands of Russia. This urban fighting using this would have been near suicide even with the best trained crew.

Hey Jon, that's a great looking Panzer IV!!!
Very nice, I like the added details....chains and cable, the 3 spare road wheels...very cool.
The snow is probably the best and most believable I've seen and not overdone.
That would look fantastic in an Eastern Front Diorama :!:...

Thanks guys! I went slow and really took my time. I looked at a lot of photos of them in the snow, noticed where the snow built up and where it did not. Between vibration, heat and run-off or melt-off angles certain places are snow free and some places have build up. I actually did the up top "snow" several times with no glue and light vibration just to see where it would stay and where it slid off before mixing the "snow" with the glue. I really like some of the new products out there now, particularly AK Interactive products. Someday I will do a very detailed tutorial video on the whole "winter" process. It is not super "difficult" per say, not like airbrushing a complex camo pattern but it is time consuming as there are many more steps involved to make it look right, more so than with other types.
