Picking up the Gauntlet
Re: Picking up the Gauntlet
I think I'd prefer to see a HE162 over a ME163, yeah they all blew up on their first combat mission but they were awesome up till that point.

Re: Picking up the Gauntlet
I would second that, it would be awesome, it was a great design and one of the first planes to use an ejection seat. PLEASE make me one Pickel!!!lancelot wrote:I think I'd prefer to see a HE162 over a ME163, yeah they all blew up on their first combat mission but they were awesome up till that point.
FYI they didn't "blow up" but the first batch was made with inferior glue and the wings came off some of them after a few G's were pulled. The second batch that was delivered just in time to be captured had this problem fixed and were test flown by the allies and had very positive evaluations.
Re: Picking up the Gauntlet
oh, I thought I read somewhere that they had flame outs with their engines and such, Either way only two of them were actually shot down by other planes in combat, I think.Jnewboy wrote:I would second that, it would be awesome, it was a great design and one of the first planes to use an ejection seat. Re: Picking up the Gauntlet
The thing is I have already started on the 163 before I shut it down.
The Salamander would be a cool build but it will take lots of time.
There is a possibility I will build it next year.
As far as the 162 they had squadrons of them made ready to fly but no gas and pilots kept them grounded.
That is why there is so much of them in museums around the world.
Also I did run a poll on the A-10 and there was TONS OF INTEREST.
I had guys who wanted to give me deposits to start my R and D. Then there was that rumor of it being built and it turned out to be SW.
We all know what happened to that.
Maybe if I can get done with all of these other projects I am working on I can get on this.
But the earliest would be next year.

Thats cool! Im more than willing to wait... not that I have much of a choice!!
I think that once your Hortons have got around and more people see how awesome it is you will have just as many or more orders for the 162 as you have had with the horton
Re: Picking up the Gauntlet
Matt, any thoughts on the P-51B/C conversion?

The mod is easy. The only real work would be pulling the canopy.rschaap wrote:Matt, any thoughts on the P-51B/C conversion?
No biggie on that.
I think that the other guys sold the set for $125 !!
I am thinking half that.
But the main hold back is time. If I could clone myself things would be different

Hey Jon,
Take a look at this 1:18 He-162. These guys are in the Czech Republic.....I can't get the page to translate but still looks great. http://amg.cdc.cz/kat107.html
Re: the Ho-229.....once pics of Pickel's Horten hit the web, I'm sure he'll be swamped with orders.

It translates into " you will need to take out a second mortgage to afford this"normandy wrote:Hey Jon,

Re: Picking up the Gauntlet
I least when Pickel says he'll work on something in the future it's most likely true, unlike every 1/18 scale company ever.

Next year or not, I'm up for it if you do. If you need R & D money for a 1/18 A-10, I'm ready and willing.
Go Ugly Early in 1/18!!
Still waiting and wishing for a 1/18 A-10 Warthog.

Re: Picking up the Gauntlet
As much as I want an A-10 (and I reeeaaallly want one) I'd be very afraid that Pickel might invest a huge amount of time and effort into it, only to have his legs cut out from under him if a major China-based manufacturer got into it, especially if they somehow got ahold of Skyworks' prototype.
There's no danger of that with something like the Salamander, since it's almost a "Luft '46" project and therefore won't be on the Bigs' radar.
Once we garage critters get the ability to truly mass produce at reasonable cost (and I do think that day will come), we can tell the Bigs to go screw themselves ... a day I look forward to with great relish ...

Re: Picking up the Gauntlet
Pickelhaube, If you did the P-51B/C would you consider doing the Malcom hood version and maybe the additional pieces to make a P-51A and the A-36 Apache. I would be in line for those.

It depends if there is more popularity.
Anybody else want them ?
Re: Picking up the Gauntlet
Matt,
I think the P-51B/C would probably have a better response if it had it's own post. My opinion only.
Thanks for everything you do, I really enjoy the conversions I've ordered in the past and will continually support you in your future projects.

At one time I was thinking of doing a line of Spitfires.
Especially the clipped wing with Vokes/ tropical filter.
or at least the mods to go with the Spit.
I also was thinking of the float plane Spit.
But interest wained. The interest was up then when I posted again it slumped.
Re: Picking up the Gauntlet
I would be interested in the P51 A, B OR C models. I was wondering though if the 21st and BBI Mustangs are close enough that one kit would work on both releases?
